How Much Does a Website Cost in Guwahati? A 2026 Breakdown
For a small business in Guwahati in 2026, a website costs anywhere from about ₹2,000 a year for a builder site you set up yourself, through ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 for a freelancer-built brochure site, to ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 for an agency-built business site. Online stores start higher still. The gap comes from scope: how many pages, how custom the design is, what features it needs, who writes the content, and who owns the code at the end.
A disclosure first. I'm a freelance developer in Assam, so I sell websites. The price ranges below come from outside sources that I link, and most of those sources also sell hosting or web services, so treat every number as a ballpark and not a quote. Where something is my opinion, I say so.
Typical prices in India in 2026
| Option | Typical cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Website builder, set up by you | ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 per year | Hostinger's cost guide |
| Freelancer brochure site | ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 | Fuzen's cost guide, August 2026 |
| Agency-built business site with a CMS | ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 | Fuzen |
| Online store | ₹50,000 to ₹3,00,000 or more | Fuzen; Hostinger puts it higher, at ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more |
The two guides do not agree with each other, which is normal. Hostinger's tier for a small business site of 5 to 15 pages is ₹10,000 to ₹80,000, and that wide band is a fair picture of what most local shops, clinics and coaching classes actually need.
Compare like with like. A cheap three-page plan with a "free first year" is a different product from a custom build, and the question to ask about it is what year two costs.
What moves the price
- Pages and content. Someone has to write the words and shoot or edit the photos. If the developer does that, it is extra work and it should appear on the quote.
- Template or custom design. Hostinger's guide prices template customization at ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 and says a fully custom interface adds ₹50,000 or more.
- Features. The same guide puts each custom feature (bookings, multiple languages, a CRM connection) at ₹5,000 to ₹50,000.
- An admin panel. If you want to edit text, add products or read enquiries yourself, someone has to build that. It costs more up front and saves you a phone call to the developer for every small change.
- Ownership. Renting a page builder forever is different from receiving the code. Ask which one you are buying.
The far end of "custom" looks like Anyak, a pre-launch site for a handcrafted Assam tea brand. Its job is storytelling rather than a product grid, so the site is a scroll-driven, six-stage sequence in Next.js with GSAP ScrollTrigger and Lenis, plus an early-access email reservation form. I was the lead frontend engineer, handling the scroll narrative, the animation sequencing, the Next.js architecture and the reservation system. No template ships that animation, and every stage of it has to be designed and sequenced by hand. A simple shop-front site with a contact form and a map has none of that, and it should not be priced like it.
Costs a quote often leaves out
- Domain. Roughly ₹500 to ₹1,500 a year, according to Hostinger. Register it in your own name, not the developer's.
- Hosting. The same guide gives ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 a year as a general range and ₹6,000 to ₹20,000 for cloud or VPS plans. "Free hosting for a year" offers renew at the normal rate.
- Hosting for a Next.js site. I deploy to Vercel or a VPS. Vercel's free Hobby plan is restricted to non-commercial, personal use, so a business site belongs on a paid plan or elsewhere. Vercel lists Pro developer seats at $20 per user per month. Ask your developer where the site will live and who pays for it.
- Maintenance. One guide puts outsourced maintenance for a small site at ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 a year.
- GST. IndiaFilings lists website development under SAC 998314 at 18%. On a ₹40,000 quote that is ₹7,200 (my arithmetic), so ask whether the number you were given includes it.
- Payment gateway fees. Razorpay's pricing explainer lists a 2% platform fee on domestic cards, UPI and netbanking, with 18% GST on that fee, which works out to 2.36% per sale. It also says the standard plan has no setup fee or annual maintenance charge. Rates change, so check the current page before you rely on this.
What I'd do at each budget
This part is my opinion, not a price list.
Under ₹10,000. Claim your Google Business Profile first. Google says creating one is free of cost, and for a local shop a correct Maps listing with your phone number and hours is as important as the website. Then put up a one-page site on a builder or a small starter package.
₹10,000 to ₹50,000. A freelancer-built brochure site of 4 to 6 pages. Get the scope in writing, keep the domain in your name, and make sure the source code is handed over to you. My own engagements include a full code repository handoff on GitHub, and the deliverables on my web development page for Guwahati include Search Console setup and deployment notes.
You need orders online. Start with WhatsApp and UPI before building a store. A WhatsApp click-to-chat button is only a link. Move to a Razorpay-style checkout once the order volume justifies the extra build and the gateway percentage.
The brand is the product. This is where custom work like Anyak earns its cost. If the goal is to make people remember a story, a template will not do it.
One honest caveat: for a plain brochure site you do not need Next.js. A builder or WordPress is a legitimate answer. I reach for Next.js when the site needs custom behaviour, an admin panel (my own portfolio runs on Next.js with Supabase) or animation like Anyak's. If you are curious how pages get rendered and cached, I cover it in ISR vs SSR vs SSG in Next.js. If your project also involves hardware, the same scoping logic applies, and IoT prototyping cost walks through it.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What is the total for year one, and what is it for year two?
- Does the price include GST?
- Who owns the domain, the content and the source code?
- Can I edit text and images myself, or does every change cost money?
- Where is the site hosted, and who pays the hosting bill?
- How many rounds of revisions are included?
- What happens if I want to move to another developer later?
A developer who answers these clearly is usually a safer bet than the lowest quote.
Working with someone in Guwahati
Web work can be done remotely, so you are not limited to Guwahati. I work with clients in the Guwahati area in person and with clients elsewhere in India and abroad remotely. Being local mainly helps when you want to sit down together and sort out content and photos. Whoever you hire, ask to see the finished site on a mid-range phone over mobile data, not only on the developer's laptop. Your customers will likely open it on a phone, so that is the version to judge.
If you are weighing a site for your business in Guwahati or elsewhere in Assam, see how I work on the web development page or send me the details and I will reply with a plan, deliverables and timeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q:How much does a basic website cost in Guwahati?
Published Indian guides put a basic site of one to five pages anywhere from about ₹5,000 to ₹50,000, depending on whether you use a template package or hire a freelancer for custom work. Cheap entry-level packages usually cover only a few pages and renew at normal prices after the first year.
Q:Is a ₹5,000 website good enough for a small business?
It can be, if all you need is a few pages with your phone number, address and hours. It stops being enough when you need to edit content yourself, take bookings or payments, or stand out with a custom design. Ask what the second-year cost is and whether you own the domain and content.
Q:What yearly costs come after the website is built?
Expect to pay for the domain (roughly ₹500 to ₹1,500 a year), hosting, and some maintenance. One guide puts outsourced maintenance for a small site at ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 a year. If you take payments online, the gateway also charges a percentage of each sale.
Q:Do website quotes include GST?
Not always. Third-party tax guides list website development under SAC 998314 at 18% GST, so a quote of ₹40,000 before GST becomes ₹47,200 with it. Ask whether the figure is inclusive or exclusive before you compare quotes.
Q:How can a Guwahati shop get on Google Maps for free?
Create or claim a Google Business Profile. Google says creating a profile and listing your business is free of cost, and you verify ownership by phone call, text message or postcard. Search for your shop on Maps first in case a listing already exists, so you claim it instead of creating a duplicate.
